IT firms to hire from 7th semester this year

Industry bodyNasscom and major Indian IT companies have agreed to spread out theircampus hiring over seventh and eighth semesters this year.

The move is in view of the significantly higher projected demand for talent and also to overcome the "operational difficulty" in covering hundreds of campuses in a span of two to three months. Till now companies used to go to campuses only in the eighth semester.

"The industry's requirements are high and at the same time increasing dramatically. The projected requirement for next year is significantly higher than this year," said Som Mittal, president of Nasscom.

"Based on their experience, companies found that their logistic costs were shooting up since they were trying to cover ahuge number of campuses in aperiod of a few months in the eight semester period. It is an operational difficulty." Many big IndianIT firms recruit from hundreds of campuses.

This is a step back from the original agreement between the various member companies of Nasscom who had decided last year that they will only be hiring only in the middle or towards the end of eighth semester. The reasoning behind that was that it ensured the continuity of education and companies dealt with students who had properly finished their studies.

It also addressed the problem of students ignoring studies in seventh and eighth semesters after getting the offer letter. Core engineering courses are still present in seventh semester whereas eighth is generally meant for research project.

"This time hiring will begin early, somewhere in October," said Mittal. "This is the outcome of our internal discussions. Details are to be still worked out." October falls in the middle of seventh semester.

It's not only the total hiring numbers that are likely to see an increase but also the proportion of freshers hired. "The percentage of freshers recruited from campus will definitely increase. I think all companies agree on this trend," said Mittal.

This step of hiring in seventh semester this time is mainly to accommodate the current contingencies. "This is a temporary solution keeping in mind the increased demand and logistical problems. Also final year projects and internships were causing problems for some students. But I want to categorically state that there is no going back to old ways of hiring very early," said Mittal.

TCS, Wipro in race for Tirupati temple project to provide IT solutions

TCS and Wipro are among three companies vying to bag the prestigious Sri Seva Project of theTirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) to provide IT solutions that will help devotees.

Currently TTD offers four main e-services such as e-seva, e-accommodation, e-sudarshanam and e-hundi to the devotees and the Sri Seva project would help the administration in offering services like providing rooms, 'laddus' as well as in tonsuring.

There are as many as 48 departments which need to be automated and brought under one platform for better services to pilgrims, TTD had said.

"TCS, Wipro andInfinite Computer Solutions have been shortlisted from the technical bids. Next step will be going for financial bids. By December, we want to implement the project," sources said.

Once the process of technical bids for the Sri Seva project gets over over in a span of ten days, the TTD may go for financial bids, they said.

The project is estimated to cost between Rs 30 crore to Rs 35 crore, with an additional maintenance cost of around Rs 12 crore every year in the first phase, a senior official earlier said.

The phenomenal growth in the number of pilgrims visiting Tirumala has put constant pressure on all the systems, most of which are based on manual operations.

According to TTD, around 50,000 devotees visit Lord Balaji's main temple in Tirumala every day and on holidays and festivals, the figure crosses one lakh.

Against the backdrop of various scandals such as black marketing of darshan tickets, accommodation and allied services, the TTD appointed Ernst and Young, an international consultancy firm, to upgrade its IT systems and update its IT eco-system.

The TTD's Specified Authority (SA) in April approved the design and proposals submitted by theErnst and Young company for the Sri Seva Project.

When contacted, a senior TTD official refused to divulge the financial aspects of the project saying that the project has to go for financial bid and hence they could not reveal the details.

"After a successful implementation of the first phase, TTD will go for the second phase, which will have a complete back-end process and solutions of the Devasthanam," sources added.

Facebook video chat: 10 things to know

Can I
multi-task?

Close on the heels of Google launching its latest social networking venture Google+, Facebook is addiing video chat to its pages. The feature powered by the Internet phone service Skype will allow Facebook's over 750 million users to make video calls on the site. Facebook has also redesigned its chat feature, so that the people whom a user messages the most, show up first.

Here's all you should know about the all-new Facebook video chat: how it works, setting up, blocking people, who all can call you and much more.

How it works

To get started you need a webcam and microphones. If you and your friend both have webcams and microphones set up, you will be able to see and hear each other in real time.

In case, you call a friend who doesn’t have a webcam, she will be able to see and hear you, but you'll only be able to hear her.

Setting up video chat

You are required to complete the set-up the first time you try to call a friend, or the first time a friend tries to call you. Now, to get started, just click on the video icon at the top of your chat window.

To start set up, just click the "Set Up" button and follow the instructions given for your browser.

Now just go to the profile of the person you wish to chat with and click the "Call" button in the top right corner. If the set-up is done, the call should connect automatically. In case it doesn’t, call again by clicking the video icon at the top of your chat window.

Once the call is answered, you may have to wait a moment for your call to connect before the video call begins. As the person you call too will have to complete the set up.

If my friend is unavailable?

In case the person you wish to video chat with is unavailable, you can leave a video message. The time and date of your missed call will be listed in your ongoing message history with the person.

Who all can call me?

This works similar to Facebook chat, meaning only the people you have confirmed as friends can call you.

How do I make myself unavailable?

You will always have the option to ignore any call you receive. If you want to make yourself unavailable for video calling and chat, just click the settings icon in the right corner of the chat list. Click "Available to Chat" to remove the check mark.

Can I block people?

To block a friend or group of friends from calling or chatting with you just create a list of the people you’d like to prevent from chatting with you. Now, click the settings icon in the right corner of the chat list. Select “Edit Availability”. Now, check the box next to the list you want to appear unavailable to and click “Close”. Now, you will not appear online to the people in this list.

How can I end a video call?
It's simple, just close the video window to end the call

Are my calls recorded?
The date of every call a user makes or receives will appears in his / her ongoing conversation history in Facebook Messages. However, calls themselves will not be recorded or saved.

Can I multi-task?
Yes, users can continue using chat and other Facebook features while making a video call.

Are their any Browser limitations?

Are
their any Browser limitations?

According to Facebook, video calling works best       with  the latest versions of Mozilla Firefox, Google  Chrome, Internet Explorer and Safari browsers.

Incidentally, video calling for Linux is not currently     supported. Users will have to use one of the above browsers in a Mac or Windows operating system.

Cricket Bat Manufacture - Amazing Photos

Kashmir Willow Tree planting

Drawknife

The drawknife is used to remove mass from the cleft for the initial part of the shaping of the cricket bat. The knife is drawn towards you and you can either take a thick or thin shaving out of the willow.
It is a very versatile tool and can be very precise but also very dangerous!!!!

Travishers

The travisher is used for creating concave shapes in the back of the cricket bat. You can yet various different radi of travisher. In the picture you can see a No4 and No5 travisher, the larger the number the more curved the concave is that it creates. Also in the bottom corner you’ll see a couple of Spokeshaves these are used to shape the shoulders and the handle of the cricket bat but can be used anywhere on the cleft. [A drawknife can also be used for shaping the shoulders and the handle of the cricket bat]

Planes and stuff

In the picture below you can see two wooden planes. The one in the far end is a round bottom plane, this is used for concave shaping the back of the cricket bat. It is in fact a pattern plane and the wooden bottom [plate] and cutting blades can be changed to get different shapes. The one closet to you is a normal flat bottom plane used on the front, back and sides of the cricket bat. Wooden planes are used because they are in general lighter and therefore your arm aches less after shaping a few cricket bats.

Facebook Will Launch In-Browser Video Chat Next Week In Partnership With Skype

Earlier this week while visiting Seattle, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg tipped off Seattle press that the company would be launching an “awesome” new product next week that has been built by Facebook’s Seattle team. The press invitations to that event went out today, saying nothing more than “Please join us for an event at Facebook” on July 6.

So what is the new product? MG Siegler speculates here that it might have a desktop component given all the desktop software hiring going on in Seattle.

And he’s right. This isn’t the main project that team is working on, but next week, says a source with knowledge of the partnership, Facebook will launch a new video chat product, powered by Skype, that works in browser. Suddenly those chat icons in the invitation have a lot more meaning.

The product has been built on Skype and will include a desktop component. It’s not clear to me whether that means it will just work if a user has Skype already installed on the computer, or if additional software will need to be downloaded even if the user already uses Skype. But it’s clear that there’s very deep integration between the products, and from the user’s perspective, the product will be an in browser experience.

Facebook and Skype have already been working together, including integration of various Facebook features into the Skype service.
But this is something else entirely. The partnership could substantially increase Skype usage. Facebook has more than 750 million active users. Currently Skype has just 170 million. And it will certainly help Facebook become even stickier for users as they start to have voice and video chat as an option to communicate.

And this also brings Facebook even closer to Microsoft, which is a Facebook shareholder and has a pending acquisition of Skype. The guys in Redmond must be smiling today, something that happens far too infrequently at Microsoft HQ.

Denmark is a Big shame to whole WORLD

The sea is stained in red and it’s not because of the climate effects of nature.

It’s because of the cruelty that the human beings (civilised human) kill hundreds of the famous and intelligent Calderon dolphins.

This happens every year in Feroe iland in Denmark . In this slaughter the main participants are young teens. WHY?
To show that they are adults and mature…. BULLLLsh

In this big celebration, nothing is missing for the fun. Everyone is participating in one way or the other, killing or looking at the cruelty “supporting like a spectator”

Is it necessary to mention that the dolphin calderon, like all the other species of dolphins, it’s near instinction and they get near men to play and interact. In a way of PURE friendship

They don’t die instantly; they are cut 1, 2 or 3 times with thick hocks. And at that time the dolphins produce a grim extremely compatible with the cry of a new born child.

But he suffers and there’s no compassion till this sweet being slowly dies in its own blood

Take care of the world, it is your home!

TCS and Infosys, Both under the Scan of Income Tax Department

In recent past, Tata Consultancy Services who is known to be the biggest rival of Wipro and Infosys was heard to be under the scanner of taxman for something what is often called “body shopping”.

But according to TCS chairman Mr. Ratan Tata, they have not received any communication in regard to forking out of additional taxes from the country's Income-Tax Department.

On Friday during the 16th annual general meeting of the company, he told his shareholders “We have not received any such notice…there have not been any allegations of body shopping. You have nothing to be concerned about”.

At the same time, in separate communications to various other companies, the Department had refused to concede onshore services as software exports. This way they have made them ineligible for tax benefits. Onshore services are actually those services that are rendered by Indian staff on deputation to overseas markets.

Besides TCS for claiming tax exemption on onshore services, Infosys has been also penalized with a fine of Rs 450 crore.
Another issue that has been plaguing the IT industry currently is in regard of increased visa costs and difficulties that are linked to securing of temporary work permits.

Very Rare Golden Pearl Harvest - Harvesting the Golden Pearl in Phillipines

Golden Pearl

On the island of Palawan in southwestern Philippines, the only living person in the world, who revealed the secret production of a rare form of jewelry and gold pearls. Go to the fragile natural pearls are treated like royal jewelry. Each oyster takes 5 years to produce one such gem, and the slightest jolt could kill it.

Jewelmer is the only pearl producer in the world that has successfully produced pearls with a rich, natural golden color. Through decades of research and biotechnology, Jewelmer was able to perfect the breeding process that produces gold-lipped Pinctada maxima pearl oysters capable of growing large, lustrous, golden pearls. This deep, rich color can only be found in South Sea pearls produced in the Philippines.

Pearls are cultured by transplanting a tiny piece of mantle tissue of an oyster shell into a the shell of a young oyster. This graft forms a pearl sac and precipitate calcium carbonate into this pocket. Over time, this grows into a pearl. It takes 2 to 5 years for a pearl to mature. “Cultivation of pearls is very time-consuming process,” explains Jacques Branellec, managing director of Jewelmer. “Any change in temperature and water conditions can affect the oysters. For 38 years I have been in cultivation of pearls, but I’m always learning something new.”
